Following the second round on July 21/22, the latest round (round 3) of the Italian Nationals was held at the fast and beautiful track located in Gubbio. This place is very nice with the very well-built facility and beautiful surroundings made this trip really enjoyable. The very hot weather was welcomed all the racers and it was soon clear that we would have to face very hot track conditions.

Team XRAY was represented in force by Michele Romagnoli (who won the 2nd round one month ago), Marco Gennari, Guido Barbera, Dario Feni racing in the Expert class, and some other very good drivers in the Senior and Junior 27T classes.

The hot track conditions made it very challenging to find a good set-up. The Gubbio track is really fast and with the latest brushless motors the speeds on the straight were unbelievable. However, a lot of problems were arising from the handout tires that were literally blowing in the hot conditions!

After qualifications it was Michele Romagnoli who claimed TQ ahead of Maurizio Taddei and Corally Driver Simari Andrea, and some new faces were showing in the A final with Massimiliano Michieli and up-and-coming youngster Francesco Rutigliani, both with XRAY T2’007 cars. A very close battle was expected for the finals because with this race the Italian title would be awarded.

The first final saw a big pileup at the start, but at the end it was Michele Romagnoli who took the win with a big gap of 8sec ahead of Costanzo, Simari, Gennari and Sala who were all racing very close for 2nd place.

The second final was won by Sala with his Corally PHI ahead of the 007 of Marco Gennari, with Maurizio Taddei sitting in 3rd place. In this final Romagnoli had some problems which took him our of the front runners.

So the big battle was set for the last final, and this time Romagnoli won again in style with only a 1sec gap on Sala with Taddei again in 3rd place.

So Romagnoli won the event and also claimed the National Title… and XRAY is the Italian Champion in the Expert class!
